Month: June 2009

  • It is so hot here–high today will be 95, if not more,
the humidity and dew point have been way up there-
    worse than tropical.

    Air conditioner is running constantly…

I see filtered sunlight, outside on my balcony-it looks so wonderful-feel it in my heart and soul!

What have you been up to?!

  • I am finding the peace and quiet delicious!
Setting my own hours feels like a sin.
I have tons of cleaning to do, but one thing at a time.

She’s safely there, and loving it!

This feels like I am creating a new life.

    I love you!!

  • She’s gone…for a year

    I love you!!

  • Sorry I haven’t been around much…
been keeping really busy on Facebook, and
helping get papers and things in order for daughter’s move to Hawaii.
She leaves on Sunday the 14th.

Thanks to all of you that leave comments,
    I really appreciate them!
I’ll get back to you, when I can.

    I love you!!

  • We’re finally getting some rain here-we need it so badly!
    Grass is gold, dried out.

8 days until Trisha leaves for Hawaii…

Has anybody seen the movie ‘Intermission’?
Going to watch it today.  Purportedly funny.

Where did the Air France plane go?

Jon and Kate–too bad-airing all of the dirty laundry.

Haven’t written a poem for a while-no inspiration, so far.

Place is in a royal mess.

Morning Glory seeds are finally coming up green,
    can’t wait until they bloom!

Reminder: take my pills-I’m on 6 for the daytime, 4 for the nighttime.
    <Groan>.

Went out on Friday to Gander Mtn and Mill Fleet Farm,
to get camping/fishing gear.  Sondra, Sharon and I are going
camping in July-should be fun!  It’s been a LONG time since
    I camped or fished.

Cats are ok, I’m ok, and Trisha can’t wait to go.

    I love you!!

    Taking a Time Out
    You Are Not Crazy

Most of us feel a little crazy from time to time. Periods of high stress can make us feel like we’re losing it, as can being surrounded by people whose values are very different from our own. Losing a significant relationship and moving into a new life situation are other events that can cause us to feel off kilter. Circumstances like these recur in our lives, and they naturally affect our mental stability. The symptoms of our state of mind can range from having no recollection of putting our car keys where we eventually find them, to wondering if we’re seeing things clearly when everyone around us seems to be in denial of what’s going on right in front of their eyes. For most of us, the key to survival at times like these is to step back, take a deep breath, and regain our composure. Then we can decide what course of action to take.

Sometimes a time-out does the trick. We take a day off from whatever is making us feel crazy and, like magic, we feel in our right mind again. Talking to an objective friend can also help. We begin to see what it is about the situation that destabilizes us, and we can make changes from there. At other times, if the situation is particularly sticky, we may need to seek professional help. Meeting with someone who understands the way the human mind reacts to stress, loss, and difficulty can make us feel less alone and more supported. A therapist or a spiritual counselor can give us techniques that help bring us back to a sane state of mind so that we can affect useful changes. They can also mirror our basic goodness, helping us to see that we are actually okay.

The main purpose of the wake-up call that feeling crazy provides is to let us know that something in our lives is out of balance. Confirm for yourself that you are capable of creating a sane and peaceful reality for yourself. Try to remember that most people have felt, at one time or another, that they are losing it. You deserve a life that helps you thrive. Try and take some steps today to help you achieve more balance and a little less crazy.

    Makes me feel better!!

    Visions
    Libera
    2005

Fans of chorale and chant music generally have a soft spot in their hearts for Libera, a long-running boy’s choir from England under the command of composerconductor Robert Prizeman. Formerly known as Angelic Voices, the group has been around for a while, with boys singing deeper parts as they age and new boys hiring on. Regardless of who is actually singing or what the listener’s religion may be, joy and a deep feeling of connectedness is a given with Libera. These choral compositions transcend ideology, becoming beautiful works of art that, through the angelic collective voice, stop time in its tracks and create a widening vista of the eternal. Visions collects, as is usual for a Libera album, an array of new compositions in addition to reinterpretations of classics and reimaginings of past Libera hits, including “Ave Maria.”

Some of Visions more immediately arresting works include the opening track, a reimagining of Pachelbel’s Canon called “Sanctus.” with its interwoven melodic middle and soaring high notes, it’s an early peak in an excellent album. “We Are the Lost” takes things down to a sense of ethereal stillness, with the boys combined voices carrying an unworldly charge aided by a low organ note and some slow-moving brass. Of the original Prizeman compositions, “The Wings of a Dove” is the most riveting, with some dynamite opening high notes and a drum track and cycling synths to add some world-music oomph.

When the beautiful voices of these kids are raised in unison the aural equivalent of the sun suddenly comes out on a gray rainy day, warming and illuminating your face. Visions is a gift from Libera to the world. Dry your eyes and open your present, it’s your heart, safely returned from its journeying, as full of warmth and love as it was before adulthood’s trials and tribulations sent it wandering. Libera is your gateway connection home. Just leave behind your baggage and any remaining cynicism. In the bright white light of their voices, all else is shadow.
